I recently had the opportunity to hold my very first mentor session. I've been wanting to try these out for a while after getting a few requests but just couldn't find the time. When I first started out in photography, I longed for someone to give me the light of day and simply share with me a few tips and tricks of the trade. Even if it was just a shoulder to lean on when I thought things were too tough and seemed almost impossible - I would have taken it!

When Alexa sent me a nice email explaining to me that she was looking for a little guidance when it came to her photography business, I leaped on the occasion. She seemed like a fun, genuine person and kind of reminded me of a myself just a few years ago.

Now I want to make it clear that I don't claim to know it all when it comes to photography. In fact, I'm very far from that. When it comes to what I do, there is a never ending learning curve and I love it for that. To me, photography never gets old and definitely keeps me on my toes! It's challenging, at times frustrating, exciting and most of all - enthralling.

I had suggested that I photograph Alexa herself and her partner so she could experience how it felt to be behind the camera at one of my regular sessions. That way, she would learn first hand what it's like to be a day to day client, how I interact with them, some posing techniques, etc.

I was honoured to help Alexa out and would love to continue offering mentor sessions. Please contact me if you are interested in doing something like this with me. We can either plan a fun, themed session or simply capture a few images of yourself and then chat over coffee!

Alexa, I had such an amazing time photographing you and Dave. It really didn't feel like I was mentoring but rather spending some quality time with an old friend - I'd do it again in a heart beat. Goodluck with everything this year and you better keep in touch ;)

Images of Alexa and Dave's session are coming up next..you won't want to miss this!
